Once upon a time
In a land so far away
There was a girl who had a gift
A gift she should have saved
She looked and looked and laughed and laughed
And cried the night away
Giving her gift to strangers
With little or nothing to say
They took the gift
Laughed at the girl
Mocking her to her face
She would smile, die inside, tears so commonplace
Until she met a kind Man
Gentle in every way
Who showed her that gift was special
And urged her to lock it away
He taught her new and strange things
Told her “be set apart
Spend your time with Me
And let me guard your heart”
“I will be your Husband
Your children, their Father I’ll be
Be still, abide, listen and obey
Put your trust in Me”
She did as He commanded
Growing stronger every day
Her pain replaced by peace and joy
Content in every way
The “Man” continued to teach her
Her trust in Him complete
She had never been so happy
Than when sitting at His feet
One day He came to her and said,
“My child, ready are you
To share the gift we locked away
With one whom I shall choose”
Bewildered, frightened, excited
Wanting only to please
She buried her face in her hands
While falling to her knees
“My God, You are sufficient
It’s You I’ve grown to love
No longer need I earthly things
My focus is above”
“Daughter, I formed you in the womb
Your heart I search and know
You have a hidden desire there
One I’d love to grow”
“I have a special plan for you
But, again, you must trust Me
Let me lead you through this plan
So its beauty you can see”
“I created you for my pleasure
Wanting only your heart and time
Because you have responded
The blessing will be Mine”
“The one whom I have chosen
Is also a child of Mine
He, like Me, is gentle,
With a heart that’s ever so kind”
“He will grow to love you
As you both seek Me
Growing closer to your heart
Its beauty he will see”
“But Father, I will miss You
We cannot be apart
I’d rather lose love forever
Than to give someone else my heart”
“Oh child, you’re not understanding
Just what you mean to Me
I could never give you away
My child you’ll always be”
“I will always go with you
Wherever you choose to go
I will never leave nor forsake you
That you should always know”
“Because I love you so much
And for now you can’t see Me
I want in this way your heart to touch
To show you what can be”
“When someone puts their trust in Me
Obeys when they know not what
Abides in Me, relies on Me
When nothing is clear cut”
“You see, My child, love is a gift
That’s meant to be given away
But only when it’s shared through Me
Only done My way”
“The love this world has to offer
Can never satisfy
As you may remember
It only leaves you empty inside”
“But now I’ve given you a chance
To love this man My way
Again you will come to Me for help
All throughout every day”
“I will teach you and mold you
Shaping your heart and mind
Never give up or surrender
This will all take time”
“Sometimes it will be painful
Sometimes a joyous refrain
No matter what, I’ll be with you
